Roy Philpott started the Fox Sports-affiliated web site CUTigers.com in 2001, and has covered Clemson University sports on a fulltime basis ever since. CUTigers is one of the largest team-specific web sites on the Internet, covering Clemson football, basketball, baseball and recruiting.
Philpott, a 1999 Clemson graduate, serves as play-by-play man for Clemson baseball and Lady Tiger basketball- both for WCCP and the Clemson Tiger Sports Network. He also has served as network host for Clemson football pre- and post-game shows for the last three years.
In addition to his play-by-play responsibilities at Clemson, Philpott has also worked with ESPN’s family of networks during Championship Week, calling conference championship games for the Atlantic Sun (ESPN2) and WAC (ESPNU) in men’s and women’s basketball. He also worked with ESPN3 with college baseball, basketball and high school football broadcasts as well.
His television career began in 2008 with WLOS/My40, Asheville’s (NC) ABC affiliate. During his time there, he was the lead play-by-play man for Friday Night Lights (high school football), Southern Conference football and select SoCon/Big South basketball games.
Philpott has been in sports talk radio in upstate South Carolina for the better part of the last five years as well. He can currently be heard weekdays from 12-3 PM at wccpfm.com or 104.9 FM WCCPM.
Ben Milstead, co-host of the “Roy Philpott Show” and Operations Manager for WCCP, has been a staple of Upstate radio for the last eight years.
Growing up on Tobacco road, Milstead has been a college sports fan as long as he can remember. ACC basketball was a way of life and the early 80’s brought some of the most exciting teams the game has ever known. It was enough to turn a kid into a lifelong fan.
Spending the last twenty five years in the Upstate, Ben is a 1993 graduate of Southern Wesleyan University where he majored in Business Administration. A three sport athlete in high school, Ben turned his attention to soccer in college and played for three seasons.
While in college Ben met his now wife of almost 20 years. The couple has three sons who are all heavily involved in sports and are all huge Clemson fans.
Ben got his start in radio eight years ago as the Producer of “The Opening Drive”, the morning show airing on WCCP at the time. The passion for sports talk radio was evident from day one and he has been on Upstate airwaves ever since.
Along with his role at WCCP, Ben has been part of the Clemson Tigers Sports Network for the past six years. He is the onsite Producer of Clemson Men’s Basketball as well as one of the cohosts of the Tiger Tailgate Show. Milstead has been court/field side for close to 200 ball games and has seen the action from a perspective few others have. In addition, Ben also produces Tiger Calls with Dabo Swinney and with Brad Brownell. Finally, Ben has written for several publications including cutigers.com and Tigertime magazine.
Away from radio, Ben loves the outdoors and is a recovering adrenaline junkie. He is an avid cyclist, loves camping and time on the lake.
